Does Divorce Make People Happy?
December 29th, 2006 by Steve
Seems like a silly question doesn’t it? You would think that if your marriage seems to be over, that one would be a lot happier divorced. Heck! That just seems like soooo much common sense to me.
If you click on the icon of the eBook to the right you can download a short eBook titled Does Divorce Make People Happy? It was written by Linda J. Waite, Don Browning, William J. Doherty, Maggie Gallagher, Ye Luo, and Scott M. Stanley. None of these folks could have been married to each other… to come up with this idea.
They say:
Even more dramatically, the researchers also found that two-thirds of unhappily married spouses who stayed married reported that their marriages were happy five years later. In addition, the most unhappy marriages reported the most dramatic turnarounds: among those who rated their marriages as very unhappy, almost eight out of 10 who avoided divorce were happily married five years later.
Now for those of you who can’t read through the 39 page pdf eBook for the answer, I’m going to tell you. The answer is “no.” Getting a divorce isn’t going to make you happy.
Rats! And here I thought I was having more fun….
