Spring is in the air

couple-01.jpg 125x105Can you smell it? Well… not where I live, but can you sense it? Maybe! Spring is in the air. What is it about Spring? Do we identify it with a new beginning for ourselves? Is it hope? What exactly does it mean?

In my opinion, Spring romances may occur more frequently simply because over the course of the winter months, some of us have a tendency to stay inside more than we would normally. Cold weather, cold cars and nasty weather is often a deterrent to people who would prefer to be more active. Realistically, what is one’s chances of a Spring Romance?

Dr. Charmaine Saunders is a counsellor who has, over the years, developed a warm, relaxed, practical style of counselling that has helped thousands of people to resolve their personal issues in a positive way. Her main areas of therapy are stress management, relationships, self-esteem, personal growth, sexuality, wellbeing and positive thinking.

In her article Falling in Love — Love strategies we use in Relationships she says that the love bug is more apt to bite in these circumstances.

*Early adult life when experience of life and love is limited
*After a break-up where one person did not want the relationship to end
*In a marriage or other long-term relationship where one partner is far more in love than the other or in fact, love is unrequited from one side.
*When a person falls in love for the first time later in life and has no warning of the force of these feelings.
*When an individual came from a childhood background of emotional neglect.

If you’re lucky enough to experience a new love this spring she also offers this bit of advice: “Never make a commitment in that first 6-month period because you are literally not thinking straight.“.

That seems like sage advice to me. If you haven’t read the article, take 5 minutes to do so. Let me know if you agree with this assessment.

What are you doing?

The population of this country is 300 million.
160 million are retired.
That leaves 140 million to do the work.
There are 85 million in school.
Which leaves 55 million to do the work.
Of this there are 35 million employed by the federal government.
Leaving 15 million to do the work.
2.8 million are in the armed forces
Which leaves 12.2 million to do the work.
Take from that total the 10.8 million people who work for state and city governments.
And that leaves 1.4 million to do the work.
At any given time there are 188,000 people in hospitals.
Leaving 1,212,000 to do the work.
Now, there are 1,211,998 people in prisons.
That leaves just two people to do the work.

You and me

And there you are,

sitting on your ass,

at your computer, reading jokes.

Nice. Real nice

For those of you ladies who are middle aged, here is a tune by Lisa Koch titled Middle Aged Woman from her new CD Tall Cool Drink.

OK, maybe it isn’t a tribute so much as a lite-hearted look at this age. I’m sure you will enjoy it regardless of gender.

Listen to it here.

If you would like to hear some of her other tunes, click here.

I could understand it, if one of my friends emailed me this, but no… this was sent to me from an ex-wife.

Communication Magic

Communication MagicOne of the biggest problems in any relationship is a lack of communication. No, insults aren’t considered to be a viable form of communication. One of the reasons behind this is fear. This doesn’t imply that partners are physically afraid of their significant other, but they may avoid telling them how they really feel because they are afraid of how the other will react.

In this eBook you will learn:

  • How to communicate with others so you get the love you want in your relationships
  • How to say what you’re truly feeling, openly and honestly without fear
  • How to get someone to open up to you even when there’s distance between you
  • The number one thing that creates communication disasters and how to avoid doing it
  • How to get other people to listen to you
  • How to let go of blame and judgments that ruin relationships
  • The secrets to listening so that you can understand other people
  • The communication style that almost always creates distance and disconnection between two people and how to keep from making this mistake
  • How to communicate to connect more deeply with the people in your life
  • What’s at the bottom of almost any communication challenge
  • And much more…

“Your information and tools provided in your tapes and books have been very valuable for me in transforming my relationship. Over the past few years I have read numerous relationship books to help me have a wonderful, passionate relationship. Nothing compares to your books.”

Why do men…

  1. WHY DO MEN BECOME SMARTER DURING SEX?
(because they are plugged into a genius)
  2. WHY DON’T WOMEN BLINK DURING SEX?
    (they don’t have enough time)
  3. WHY DOES IT TAKE 1 MILLION SPERM TO FERTILIZE ONE EGG?
(they don’t stop to ask directions)
  4. WHY DO MEN SNORE WHEN THEY LIE ON THEIR BACKS?
(because their balls fall over their asshole and they vapor lock)
  5. WHY WERE MEN GIVEN LARGER BRAINS THAN DOGS?
(so they won’t hump women’s legs at cocktails parties)
  6. WHY DID GOD MAKE MEN BEFORE WOMEN?
(you need a rough draft before you make a final copy)
  7. HOW MANY MEN DOES IT TAKE TO PUT A TOILET SEAT DOWN?
    (don’t know…..it never happened)
  8. WHY DID GOD PUT MEN ON EARTH?
(because a vibrator can’t mow the lawn)

Weenie Roast Anyone?

light-bulb.gif 60x83At this time of year, thought turn towards Summer. Weenie roasts, the beach, the cottage by the bay… No doubt! Some folks just can’t wait. Unfortunately, one woman who just couldn’t wait for a weenie roast has been sentenced to four years in prison.

That may seem a little stiff (no pun intended) but the important thing to remember here — is not to be roasting someone elses’. A 44 year old woman from Montreal, Andrée René, in April 2001, poured fondu oil over her boyfriend’s manly-hood as he slept and then promptly lit him up.

According to an article on the CBC website, it said:

During the sentencing arguments, the court heard René has a history of behavioural problems, has been a victim of abusive relationships and harbours deep anger towards men.

Uh… “harbouring a deep anger towards men,” would be a given in this case, I would think.

Dear Dad,

A father passing by his son’s bedroom was astonished to see that his Bed was nicely made and everything was picked up. Then he saw an Envelope propped up prominently on the pillow that was addressed to “Dad.”

With the worst premonition he opened the envelope with trembling Hands and read the letter.

Dear Dad:
It is with great regret and sorrow that I’m writing you. I had to elope With my new girlfriend because I wanted to avoid a scene with mom And you.

I have been finding real passion with Stacy and she is so nice. But I knew you would not approve of her because of all her piercing’s, Tattoos, tight motorcycle clothes and the fact that she is much Older than I am. But it’s not only the passion…Dad she’s pregnant. Stacy said that we will be very happy. She owns a trailer in the Woods and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter.

We share a dream of having many more children.

Stacy has opened my eyes to the fact that marijuana doesn’t really Hurt anyone. We’ll be growing it for ourselves and trading it with the Other people that live nearby for cocaine and ecstasy. In the meantime, We will pray that science will find a cure for AIDS so Stacy can get Better. She deserves it.

Don’t worry Dad. I’m 15 and I know how to take care of myself. Someday I’m sure that we will be back to visit so that you can get To know your grandchildren.

Love, Your Son John

PS. Dad, none of the above is true. I’m over at Tommy’s house. I just Wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than the Report card that’s in my center desk drawer.

I love you. Call me when it’s safe to come home.

A few days ago I posted an article about where you could get the New Canada Food Guide. If you’re new to dating after breaking off with your ex, it is felt that one may need to get “back in shape” because dating is an activity that you want to feel your best at so you can fully enjoy it.

Besides eating right, exercise is important too. If you haven’t exercised for a while it is good to ease into it, so you aren’t doing anything too strenuous. I searched the web for an exercise that might be easy for you to get started with. Yoga seems like a good choice. Admittedly, I don’t know a lot about Yoga, but my research led me to the article, Health Benefits of Yoga — Why Yoga Exercise is Good for You, which says:

Yoga as we all know it is aimed to unite the mind, the body, and the spirit. Yogis view that the mind and the body are one, and that if it is given the right tools and taken to the right environment, it can find harmony and heal itself. Yoga therefore is considered therapeutic. It helps you become more aware of your body’s posture, alignment and patterns of movement. It makes the body more flexible and helps you relax even in the midst of a stress stricken environment. This is one of the foremost reasons why people want to start Practicing Yoga - to feel fitter, be more energetic, be happier and peaceful.

Of course we all want to feel fitter, be more energetic, be happier and peaceful, but as I was preparing my article, a friend suggested that there are subtle differences in how some cultures practice this exercise.

In India, here is one of their exercises in Yoga:

I had to reduce the image to fit it to the blog, but the fine print, circled in red, says, “This version of the posture requires considerable strength in the neck, shoulder and back requiring years of practice to achieve. It should not be attempted without supervision

In Saskatchewan, Canada, it also requires supervision, but the practice methods may vary a bit.

It has been said that Canadian’s don’t seem to be realizing the same benefits of other cultures during their sessions. Although they appear happier and more peaceful, reports indicate they may feel less energetic.
